Where are you from?

Michigan

What are the primary responsibilities of your role?

Community outreach & engagement in coordination with research and support through resource compilation and program design.

Why is this job important to you and how does your educational, professional, or personal background help you to do your job well?

This internship opportunity affords me experience in cultivating meaningful relationships with community members and how to make use of those connections to build and empower communities from within. My past experience as an engagement intern while obtaining my BSW exposed me to the inner workings of affordable housing programs. Specifically within a person-centered approach with on site social workers, programs and services. I worked with families residing in a 342 unit affordable housing community to gather recommendations on future programming and development. Although this background provides me some experience in engaging with community members, I recognize it's a skill that you need to continuously exercise and evaluate to serve communities effectively, which is why this is so important to me.

What do you love about this neighborhood?

The city steps! I had never seen any before moving to Pitt, walking around the Hazlewood neighborhood. The way they connect people is also symbolic to me!
