Where are you from?

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, neighborhood of Highland Park.

What are the primary responsibilities of your role?

My role is to direct the real estate initiatives. This includes prioritizing healthy and affordable housing for Hazelwood residents. I will oversee fundraising for our real estate projects and assist in managing our real estate portfolio.

Why is this job important to you and how does your educational, professional, or personal background help you to do your job well?

The significance of this job resonates deeply with me due to its profound impact on people's lives. Helping people find homes or launching small businesses represents more than just professional fulfillment. It's about contributing to the betterment of communities and empowering individuals to achieve their aspirations. I am the middle child from a family of eight. I was always the peacemaker of the bunch.

My educational background in Public Affairs and Art Education has helped me to understand the dynamics of community development, policy frameworks, and the intricate relationships between various stakeholders. Over the past 30 years, my work has delved into urban planning, social welfare and public policy. I have always enjoyed numbers and budgets, which are essential for navigating the complexities of community development work.

My extensive professional experience in the community development field has provided me with invaluable insights and practical knowledge. I've cultivated relationships with community members, local authorities and organizations, fostering collaboration and synergy to address pressing issues and implement sustainable solutions. Through hands-on experience, I've honed my ability to assess community needs, devise strategic plans and mobilize resources effectively.

Witnessing the transformative impact of community development initiatives firsthand has reinforced my dedication to advocating for marginalized populations and creating inclusive spaces where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

What do you love about this neighborhood?

The neighborhood's unique characteristics underscore the importance of our work in community development. The presence of a vibrant riverfront, proximity to esteemed universities and the historical charm of its buildings make it a desirable place to live and work. However, it's the people — the heart and soul of the neighborhood — that truly define its essence.
