Pittsburgh is expanding a program to repair busted-up sidewalks, footing part of the bill for low-income owners. The program was created to address busy areas with stretches of damaged and poorly maintained sidewalks — particularly those making conditions potentially dangerous for people passing through.

City Councilor Barb Warwick and her neighbors in The Run are fighting to convince Pittsburgh Water (formerly PWSA) to reverse its unannounced decision to cut the stormwater project from their capital budget. She spearheaded a May 23 press conference in Four Mile Run Field just before making public comments at Pittsburgh Water’s monthly board meeting.

The June 10 Greater Hazelwood monthly community meeting was well attended despite the beautiful late spring weather. Attendees got an update on the BioForge facility under construction on Hazelwood Green, learned about Hazelwood’s homegrown workforce development company and heard from City Controller Rachael Heisler.
