Remembering a hero: Peter J. Rota of Hays | The Homepage
Technician Fifth Grade Peter J. Rota was from Hays. He was born Jan. 24, 1918, and died Feb. 17, 1999. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action because of his bravery on July 17, 1944, in the vicinity of Fauglia, Italy, as a member of U.S. Army Company E, 168th Infantry Regiment.

The growing season arrives at the Hazelwood Community Garden | The Homepage
There have been some exciting infrastructure improvements at the community garden in the past year. The fencing was fixed with entry points added and new beds were created to grow food in a communal area with the intent of distributing to neighbors. Perhaps most exciting of all is the ongoing renovation of the greenhouse and tool shed at the site. The technical know-how and support these projects are receiving has been invaluable.
