Hazelwood Initiative Inc. and Volpatt Construction Corporation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on June 12 to celebrate the launch of a 35-home renovation project that began in 2025. The $3 million investment will preserve long-term affordable rental housing in Hazelwood. Mayor Corey O’Connor and District 5 City Councilor Barb Warwick joined the partners at 314 Renova St. for the event.

The Neighborhood Investment Fund is a micro-grant program that Hazelwood Initiative Inc. offers at least once a year. Since launching in 2020, funding for this program has come out of the rent paid by Propel School. In 2024, the organization got a two-year, $50,000 grant that will make a second round possible for later this year.
