People at the March 10 Greater Hazelwood community meeting were in good spirits. Friends and neighbors caught up with each other before the meeting started. Center of Life’s Tim Smith presented the design for his organization’s community hub planned for Hazelwood Green. The artist team of Jaime Guerrero, James Simon and Rob Long took the tour as a way of introduction. They talked with leaders from Holy Cross Church, Industrial Arts Workshop, Carnegie Library of Hazelwood, Hazelwood Family Center, JADA House International, Hazelwood Initiative Inc., Community Kitchen and Center of Life. This grounded the team in place as they start the process of generating ideas for a new public artwork.

A few years ago, I was invited by The Community Builders Inc. to submit a proposal for an artwork for the lobby of the Gladstone Residences. I was asked to design this artwork using the wooden backs of the chairs of the auditorium from when it was a school.
