A small crowd of stalwart Hazelwoodians braved the day’s heat to attend the July 14 Greater Hazelwood community meeting at Community Kitchen Pittsburgh. Joined by about a dozen online participants, they learned about a new neighborhood employment center, tree planting, and a project to generate ideas for the Gladstone Annex. But first, two familiar presenters talked about a new public art trail in Hazelwood.

The June 16 Greater Hazelwood community meeting saw a slightly lower attendance than normal because it had been changed from its usual second-Tuesday date. On June 9, a public meeting took place focused on the Elizabeth Street bridge; participants on June 16 heard about that. They also got an update on the renovation of Lewis Playground and learned about water issues and what they can do about them.

The May 12 Greater Hazelwood community meeting started off a little slow, possibly on account of the gorgeous spring weather. But neighbors and friends of Hazelwood trickled in until a good crowd was assembled to learn about fun events planned on Hazelwood Green this summer. But first, they heard a presentation about a wealth-building program available to any Housing Authority of City of Pittsburgh resident or housing choice voucher holder.

The April 14 Greater Hazelwood community meeting took place at the Spartan Center to accommodate more people. A crowd of about 40 people showed up, plus about 20 more online. They came to hear about Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s most recent proposal and the revived effort to create a comprehensive plan for the city.

The Feb. 10 Greater Hazelwood monthly hybrid community meeting saw a robust turnout. Neighbors gathered to hear about the next housing development coming to Hazelwood Green and events planned on the plaza this year. Remember the bus shelters with a migratory theme? They are getting closer to landing. But first, attendees heard about housing study findings that may shape affordable housing development in the neighborhood for years to come.

The Nov. 18 Greater Hazelwood community meeting created space for discussion about a proposed duplex to be built near the corner of Tullymet and Monongahela streets, an upcoming green industry job fair, and news of a zoning change for the riverfront.

The Oct. 14 Greater Hazelwood hybrid community meeting saw lively discussions about land use throughout the neighborhood and city. A lifelong resident proposed building a year-round baseball facility below the tracks, and staff from the Department of City Planning invited feedback about the Adopt-A-Lot program and expanding the greenway system.

Hazelwood neighbors and friends gathered online and in the second-floor classroom of Community Kitchen Pittsburgh on July 8. They heard updates on new housing in Hazelwood and learned about making their homes more energy efficient. District 5 Councilor Barb Warwick had a last-minute addition to the agenda. She alerted meeting participants to a potential problem at the recycling facility at 50 Vespucius St. in Hazelwood.

The June 10 Greater Hazelwood monthly community meeting was well attended despite the beautiful late spring weather. Attendees got an update on the BioForge facility under construction on Hazelwood Green, learned about Hazelwood’s homegrown workforce development company and heard from City Controller Rachael Heisler.

People gathered online and in person for the May 13 Greater Hazelwood monthly community meeting. They got exciting news about painted crosswalks coming to the business district. They also learned about a possible concept for the former home of Josza’s Corner. In Hazelwood Green news, an obscure zoning code change was discussed. Representatives from Module Housing visited for a second time to talk about their planned development.

Residents gathered on April 8 for Hazelwood Initiative’s monthly community meeting. They learned about Hazelwood Green planned housing updates. Presenters also informed them about a proposed zoning amendment and civic engagement opportunities. The meeting provided updates on several projects that will shape the neighborhood’s future.
